Goods-In Scan on the phone
On the phone, scan a consignment box label to look it up, receive it into a location, or stage it from stock.
Screens may differ slightly from what you see.
What it is for
This is the phone version of goods-in. It uses the camera to read the label on a consignment box. The screen is called Scan. It is opened from the Goods-In Scan tile on the phone's home screen.
It does three jobs, which you choose from a menu:
- Look up only: read a label and see what it is.
- Goods-in (receive): scan the box label, then scan the location it is going to. The box is booked in to that location.
- From stock (stage): scan the box label, then scan an existing stock label, to set stock aside for that box.
Who can use it
- Opening the screen: the Goods-In Scan tile is added to the home grid for every signed-in user.
- Look up only: works for any signed-in user.
- Read-only mode: if the phone is in read-only mode, the screen is forced to Look up only and the mode menu is hidden.
How to use it
Look up a label
- On the home screen, tap Goods-In Scan.
- Tap the mode icon (top right) and choose Look up only.
- Point the camera at a label. The prompt says "Scan any label to look it up".
- A card shows what the label is. For a consignment box it shows the customer name, the description, the SKU and a line such as "Box 2 of 5", plus a status chip. A label that cannot be read shows Unrecognised with a reason.
Receive a box into a location
- Tap Goods-In Scan. The screen opens in Goods-In mode. If it does not, use the mode icon and choose Goods-in (receive).
- Scan the box label. The prompt says "Scan the box label (JBOX)". The card shows the customer and the box ("Box N of M"). If the label is not a consignment box, you see "Not a consignment box label".
- The prompt changes to "Now scan the destination LOCATION", and a Step 2 chip appears. Scan the location label.
- A green message confirms it, for example "Received (2 of 5 received)". An orange message means it was already done. A red message gives the reason it was blocked.
- The screen goes back to step 1 for the next box. To pick a different box before step 2, tap Scan a different box.
Stage a box from stock
- Choose From stock (stage) from the mode icon.
- Scan the box label.
- When the prompt says "Now scan the existing STOCK label", scan the stock label.
- A green message says "Staged from stock".
Scan into a job
- Open a job on the phone.
- Tap the scan icon in the top bar. Its tooltip reads "Scan into this job".
- The screen opens in look-up mode, tied to that job. A box for another job is rejected by the server.
If the phone is offline
- Scan as normal. If the phone cannot reach the server on the second scan, the message reads "Offline — scan queued (N pending)".
- A banner at the top shows "N scan(s) queued offline" with a SYNC button.
- When you have a signal, tap SYNC. The result reads like "Synced: 3 applied, 0 blocked, 0 still queued".
Tips
- Hold the phone steady. The screen waits a moment after each scan so the same label is not read twice.
- Use the torch button on the camera view in poor light.
- A queued scan is safe to sync later. Each scan carries its own ID so it cannot be applied twice.
Things to know
- This is the phone version. There is no web page for it in the menu.
- Do not confuse it with the web Goods Received tab on the Stock page. That tab is for supplier delivery notes. See Goods received notes and back orders.
- Those screens are not covered here. Their goods-in only looks up a code. It does not record a receipt. The screen described in this article does record the receipt.
- If it is off, the server answers "not found" and the scan will fail.
